I am not a big VP guru but I had some fun playing VP at the Venetian last 2 times I was there , I am a low roller so I played the 25 cent machines. I had my best luck at the bank of 25 cent machines outside the La Scena lounge back by the sports book , second and third machines in from the aisle. This kind has reels on the top like a slot machine so when you hit 3 of a kind you get a spin for a multiplier. If you have good timing you can get good multipliers. I dont think I ever lost more than a few bucks and usually made between 20 and 50 bucks after an hour or two of play on one machine. One night 3 of us played side by side and we all won a few bucks and had a few drinks and a great time - you can hear the live music from the lounge usually as well as it does not have a door. Drink service was very good ( I tip well ) and I was glad I was staying in that hotel when I called it quits.

The Occulus Bar in the casino has VP machines but you should load a bit of money in it and play for a while or they will not comp you a drink. Thats a good place to hang out if you like to people watch or meet sweet young things :-) ....

It seemed the serious VP players were on the machines near the large casino entrance where you would be coming in from registration. These machines were added in the last year or so.

Do not play VP on the strip, no full pay machines. Best places are:

Orleans

In these places you will find a few full pay machines if you know what you are looking for and how to play. Otherwise, well....
