Should we switch? Strat to ?

Leaving 2 weeks from Sunday for a week of drinking gambling and pure fun. Weve been to Vegas several times. Weve seen most of the sights and the tourist things but its always fun to check em out again. Stayed at Luxor, NYNY, Flamingo, Hard Rock, and Ballys. This time however we opted for something different. We have reservations at The Stratosphere. We booked this because our first 2 nights were free and the last 3 nights were $19 each. Also have about $100 in comp dining. Pretty cheap hotel package and leaves plenty of money for other things. Weve never stayed at The Strat, but we have gambled there several times and ate there a couple also. Were not high maintenance. The hotel is where we go to crash or get cleaned up thats about it. We like to leave our casino and return who knows when, usually very late in the night or early AM. We also like to go downtown to gamble and the Strat puts us almost there, just a quick cabride away. I am concerned about how safe my wife and i will be walking from the Strat to the monorail at the Sahara or walking to say the Stardust or Riviera. Weve made the walk before and know the neighborhood is not the greatest. My questions is would you stay down here as its basically free and take our chances or would you bite the bullet and stay somewhere more south on the strip. If i was going to pay id probably pick The Mirage. Also saw rooms at Barbary Coast for 85 / night for the entire week. I know we will have fun either way, just dont want to run into any trouble. Wife seems to think itll be fine, im wondering. Thoughts anyone?

Well, since you%26#39;re saving so much on the hotel, maybe you could rent a car....or at the very least take a cab.

I definitely would NOT walk around in that area. Plus that%26#39;s quite a hike to the Stardust, isn%26#39;t it?

How can you beat 5 nights for $57? And with that kind of money saved why would you bother walking to monorail or even taking monorail. Just hop into a taxi.

I am staying there in abut a week and have stayed there several times and we really enjoy it there. THis will be my first time without a car (dont even drive the car while there anyways because of traffic) but I walked from the Strat to other hotels during the day with no problem. You can also take the bus from right in front of the hotel to say Circus Circus without a lot of traffic to deal with untill you get near TI. My opinion would be dont let the walk affect your decision and stay there since its so cheap and just use a Taxi late at night as Ive heard the monorail doesnt opperate that late anyway, but someone please correct me if im wrong.

I can walk from the Strat to the Stardust in 20 minutes or less. But, I%26#39;m 6%26#39;1'; and tend to leave most people behind when I%26#39;m out for a power walk. For a nice stroll count on it taking 30 minutes or more. Walking from the Strat to the Southern end of the Strip is ok, it%26#39;s going North that is to be avoided.

Back when I used to vist, a week at any hotel would be too long. But, I lived in CA and could drive here in 6 hours. And would visit 10 times a year.

You mention you like to gamble downtown, would you like to stay there instead? Or rather be somewhere where the pool is bigger than a 2 car garage?

With what you%26#39;re saving I think you have a good deal going. Stay at the Strat and rent a car or cab it to wherever you want to play.
