Just need to hear if anyone has had any memorable stays at the Golden Nugget on any weekends?
Anyone stay at Golden Nugget for Weekend?
Kentucky Derby last year I watched my 125:1 future bet (Smarty Jones) win the run for the roses and also spoke with good ol%26#39; Amarillo Slim in the Golden Nugget Sports Book. That was a nice weekend.
Anyone stay at Golden Nugget for Weekend?
Sweet ticket Staunch. I hate to bet against a grey horse (and rarely do.) Do you have any betting ';weirdnesses';?
Never accept a $50 bill at the track. Bad luck....
Steve, Glad to hear about your Big bucks. I%26#39;m hoping to put a little money on my Illi at ncaa tourney time. Too bad I can%26#39;t afford to bet the kinda money it would take to bring me your kinda winnings.
Did you stay at the hotel... was it nice ... My husband and I are just looking for a comfortable clean bed and Expedia has a pretty nice package price that looks tempting.
We like to gamble downtown but have never stayed at the Nugget before.
Just need a littel assurance I guess
I stayed there one weekend. It is a VERY nice property, and the service is wonderful. The only drawbacks are a pretty generic pool, and being downtown (if you plan to be on the strip much). Downtown has excellent bargains on gambling and drinking, etc. You could certainly stay there all weekend and have fun, but realize that it%26#39;s not as polished as the strip and the megaresorts. My best advice if you stay there and want to get to the strip is to:
1. Take the bus (which will remind you of the train car scenes of Schindler%26#39;s List) for $2
2. Risk your life and walk to the bottom point on the new monorail system and take that-a 3 day pass can be had for $25 (remember this price when we get to #3) Or, take the bus to a point where you can get the monorail. http://www.lvmonorail.com/
3. Take a taxi-this can run you as much as $25 each way from the nugget! At the least, it%26#39;ll run about 10-13 each way. This to me is too much.
I love old timey downtown, but I am the kind of guy that likes sitting at the blackjack table for hours on end and I don%26#39;t care if there is a MALL in my hotel. The freemont lights are a little overrated, but that%26#39;s made up for by $5 single deck handheld blackjack over at the plaza. All in all, it can be done if you aren%26#39;t always trying to get to the strip and back.
Hope this helps.
BlackJack, Thanks for the reassurance. We usually stay in Vegas for around 6 days when we go. We rent a car and go whereever, we usually find ourselves gambling downtown alot because its cheaper, especially on the weekend. We%26#39;re thinking about spending the weekend downtown and moving to the Strip during the week. But I still want a nice pool and comfort (not a sagging mattress) I just need a little push in this direction. Would rather gamble at the tables...not on my comfort.
KK
i used to stay there alot, the hotel is very nice, the casino
is good, good dealers and bosses, good comps, good food.
but........now everyone that stays at the surronding places
all come to the gn to play, because all the other places down-
town ar all dumps. the clientele that stay ate these other
places are , well u know, dont want to insult, but u get
my drift. i would say if you are going to stay at the gn,
dont leave...............but then those other people will drive u
crazy. stay somewhere more affordable on the strip
because then you have acces to other nice places.

I LOVE the Golden Nugget hotel and have been staying there at least once a year for the past twelve years. The hotel rooms are the best in town for the price and comparable to the Mirage in overall quality. GN is so much nicer than any other hotel/casino property downtown, it%26#39;s not funny. And the room rates are not that much higher. You will enjoy great customer service and a very comfortable room. Also, they have lowered some of the table limits on craps and blackjack so that most anyone can play in a NICE casino as opposed to some of the more run-down places downtown. I used to love gambling at Binion%26#39;s Horseshoe across the street, but ever since Teddy got whacked, the $2 Steak special went away and Harrah%26#39;s took over, it%26#39;s just not much fun. Always park in the GN Valet parking on the east side of hotel. It%26#39;s fast and free (tip a buck or two) and all valet staff are professional and friendly. You will have a great time there! BTW, when gambling in the Sports Book, each time you place a $20 wager, make sure and ask for ';some drink coupons';. You%26#39;ll usually get one or two for each $20 wager and they are good at the Sports Book bar until 8pm that night. Tip your bartender $1 per free drink.

How about this for ';assurance'; that the Golden Nugget is a great hotel? AAA 4 diamond and Mobil 4 star property for 25 straight years. Golden Nugget is the ONLY hotel in Las Vegas that has achieved this status.
listen to staunchsteve, ';more run down places';
thats right all those people at those places will be your
new buddy, have fun!!!!!
