the dollar

? for u yanks. what is the origin of the word (bucks) $. always wondered.

the dollar

Buck, the slang term for a dollar, is a clipped form of buckskin. On the American frontier, buckskins were often used as units of commerce. The term buck, meaning a unit of value, dates to at least 1748.

thanks for that maideneer (interesting)

Tripper,

Just a word of warning. Most Americans don%26#39;t like being called a Yank. At leat I don%26#39;t like the term. Just like the most English don%26#39;t like being called Brits. I don%26#39;t play for the New York Yankees and I%26#39;ve never lived in the New England area. Therefore in my mind I%26#39;m not a Yank.

lol VegasMan

Do I hear a Southern accent there?

Nsane,

If you do, it%26#39;s from my cold. Las Vegas is the furthest East I%26#39;ve ever lived. I grew up in Southern CA, 50 miles from Palm Springs. Lived in San Luis Obispo (My college town) for 16 years, then moved to Vegas in 1998. True, calling me a Yank will irk me a little. Calling a Georgian (Or any other Southerner) a Yank will get you hung.

Joe

oops, sorry.
