Well, we had a meet and greet on the 6th, it was my husband and I, Yves, George and Joanna. We had a few pints at 9FI in NYNY. They were all very nice people. I hope all the meet and greets go as well as our little one did. I also met VegasMan--as nice and genuine IRL as he is here.
Arrived 3/6 in the am--went to Main Street Station (2 nights) and checked into our room (this was our first stay with them, and it was a comp). The room was big, had two queenbeds armoire, table and chairs nad a safe with a key. A large window with shutters instead of drapes--they looked very nice, but it was sort of bright in the am. If I were to be fair, I%26#39;d say the room was in good condition and very clean. Tasteful colors, very comfy bed and pillows (used one bed), but if you%26#39;re nitpicky don%26#39;t look under the bed, and ignore the old metal on the drain in the tub. The room was GREAT for free, good for about $65 or less. I don%26#39;t know if there are rooms in better shape, but I did like the property a lot. Wonderful low-key atmosphere, pretty common areas (Old West Victorian) and a helpful staff. Could hear the train at night when my hubby turned off the AC fan--so he turned it back on :) Spent 2 nights here, would stay with them again if the Nuggett was booked or I had a low rate.
Places we ate downtown:
~MSS Sunday Brunch--great price, good food that was always fresh and a wide variety (from Hawaiian to pizza to collard greens). Very pretty room, and lots of local famlies. A nice atmosphere. Champagne glass was always full.
~777Brew Pub (at MSS)--LOVED it. I wish I had ventured in on past trips. Great food, great prices.
~Nugget%26#39;s cafe--good as always.
~Magnolia Cafe in 4 Queens--Another find through this forum. Good %26#39;home cooked%26#39; food in this coffee shop. Low prices, great service. Glad people mentioned it here, I never would have found it.
Tuesday we checked in the Mirage--Beautiful king room, excellent pool, fantastic service. No hesitation about staying with them again. I%26#39;ll deatil this in a hotel review here, but ask any questions you may have.
*just a note. I originaly had Paris booked for the strip part of this trip, then rebooked it for a lower rate. Then I cxld it and booked Aladdin. Cxld Aladdin when I found out the pool was not open yet, and booked a good rate at Mirage with a dining credit. We were so happy not only because we really like the quality of the Wynn-built properties, but it was great pool weather. It just made the trip!
Places we ate on the strip:
~Mirage coffee shop and room service--try the cinnamon rolls!
~Aladdin buffet--dinner at 430p--perfect time to go. EXCELLENT!
~Paris breakfast buffet--good choice. I like the little rooms to sit in off the main dining/food staion area. Quiet in a crazy place.
~Stardust cafe--my club sandwich was just as I expected it--like a Denny%26#39;s. But we were hungry, and we were there.
~TI%26#39;s coffee shop--good food as always, but awful service. She was having a BAD night, lol.
~Moongate (Chinese in the Mirage)--it%26#39;s our place for a nice quiet meal. Dinner for two, glass of champagne and a coke was less than $50, before tip. Outstanding service, beautiful romantic setting away from the casino noise.
~Zanzibar in Aladdin--great hot corned beef sandwich!!! Hangover cure with a coke, fries and a pickle :)
I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;m leaving somethings out, but it%26#39;s late and I don%26#39;t want this to be too long.
Again, ask any questions you may have! We went all over, rode the monorail, taxis and the bus (never again will I take the bus in Vegas).
We won some money, did a little shopping, made new friends and walked our legs off. It was the relaxing, low key break we needed.
Trip Report 3/6-3/11-MSS, Mirage, TA M%26amp;G and lots of food
We are leaving for Vegas next Saturday. It%26#39;s our upteenth trip there but you brought up some new places to stop for a bite that we%26#39;ve never been--Thanks:)
We are also doing a meet and greet w/some folks from England. This is a great place to come and find out different things and meet.
How was the weather--I see you had pool time. Over 70??
Trip Report 3/6-3/11-MSS, Mirage, TA M%26amp;G and lots of food
Okfestlady, the weather was nearly perfect--hovered about 80. Not too hot by any means, but warm enough for pool time. Mirage heats their pool (it is not bath water warm, took a minute to adjust to it). If they didn%26#39;t heat it, it would have been too cold to go in the h20, but nice to lay in the sun and have a Lava Flow :)
It%26#39;s was also our umpteenth time to Vegas, and I had compiled a list of places to eat, suggested mostly here in this forum. My husband who claims to not care too much about where he eats was very impressed, lol. These were not fancy or expensive places to eat, but a few of them I%26#39;d make a point of going back to next trip.
