first Vegas visit in late April - Hotel suggestions

Hi Forum,

My wife %26amp; I are strongly considering a visit to LV for the last week in April........we REALLY need something to look forward to with all the snow and slush in New England. I%26#39;ve never been and it%26#39;s been a long time for my wife. We%26#39;re in our forties - hope to catch a show or two, do a bit of gambling, and enjoy some good food and weather. My wife would like a nice pool.

Shopped around a bit on line, but the best deals I%26#39;ve found so far is thru my agent at AAA. Venetian for @ 130/night is appealing, but sounds like the pool is so-so and might be undergoing some renovations. For a bit less, Mandalay Bay, Caesar%26#39;s, Monte Carlo, Luxor, %26amp; Alladin (in price order) seem to be available

Lastly - is it best to book now or could some last minute deals for these or other properties surface if you are a bit flexible where you stay?

Thanks for any insight! We are really looking forward to being in the sun on the Strip !

The Venetian is a great hotel and for $130 its a steal. There are several reasonable and good restaurants in the Venetian, and nice shopping. I thought the pool was fine, but pools are not a really big factor for me.

I really think you should book now, especially at that rate. I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;d even come close to that later.

Venetian or any of the others are good hotels. Never delay booking. Book directly with Holtel ASAP.

book early and wait and check if u see a promotion that come by. You can always cancel if you get a better choice or deal later. The casino%26#39;s website is great place or sign up on receiving emails promotions from them.

Check out the website lasvegas.com, I have not booked a hotel here before, but there are some great rates listed. Also there are pictures and info about the hotel pool%26#39;s. I like to book ahead of time, but then I ask at check-in what the rates are and they are usually cheaper then what I pre-booked and I negotiate for the lower rate. However, sometimes a good price is only for that night (to fill empty rooms) and if there is a convention going on it may be a little harder to negotiate last-minute deals. Also, the weather... I have been to Vegas twice in April, both times it was 80 degrees the day of my arrival and departure and the 5 days between were in the sixties with a wind that made it feel like the fifties. At least the sun was out! It actually started snowing when we went out to Red Rock Canyon to hike. We found the ';heated'; pools were not heated enough to swim during the day, but at night when the temp. fell into the forties, the pool wasn%26#39;t bad, although we were the only ones swimming!

i can relate to needing to get out of the snow. the winter in cleveland has been long and i need vegas bad too. as far as pools go, the best place i%26#39;ve found to get the low-down is cheapovegas.com. they have good reviews on the pools at each hotel. the venitian does sound like a good deal at $130 though. never stayed there but i%26#39;ve read good things. have fun - find a good pool!

If you can get Mandalay Bay for under $130 a night, GO FOR IT. Book now and smile the while time you%26#39;re there. You%26#39;re getting one of the nicest hotels for a dirt cheap price.

I stayed at Paris and MB THEhotel this past week. Do not hesitate to book ANYWHERE at MB. The complex, beach/pool and entertainment/food is out of this world. It%26#39;s worth it just to wade in the lazy river ride. If you can get the THEhotel, even better. It%26#39;s quite frankly the best hotel I%26#39;ve ever stayed in. Venetian is lovely, but no where near as interesting as MB.

Many thanks to all for your feedback.

I%26#39;ve been checking back on the hotel sites and seeing some good deals booking directly with them - might spend a few more $%26#39;s but sounds like better chance at a favorable upgrade or view.

Venetian site confirms that they%26#39;re renovating pool areas and probably scared me off for this visit (pool real important to my wife). Hadn%26#39;t considered at first, but Mirage seems to have pretty good deal for my dates in April - probably narrowed down to that or Mandalay Bay. Mirage is about $30 cheaper/nite and location seems better, especially since I%26#39;m a first timer.

Any further opinions about Mirage vs. MB is greatly appreciated.......before i pull trigger.

Thks again.

You can%26#39;t go wrong with the Mirage on your first trip. Beautiful hotel, great pool, and walking-distance access to many of the most popular sights, casinos, and restaurants in Vegas. Save MB for next trip.
