Driving from Las Vegas to Yosemite

Right now I have air fare to arrive in Las Vegas on April 30th and planned on leaving Monday to head to Yosemite. I have to be in Philo, CA (2 hours north of San Fransisco) on Friday for sister%26#39;s wedding. I am now realizing that there is going to be more drive time than anticipated as it seem I will have to loop around versus going through the pass to Yosemite. Am thinking of changing my air fare to skip Vegas and fly in to Oakland and rent a car there. Had originally planned on going to Kings Canyon NP, Yosemite, then to Russian River area via Sonoma. My boyfriend and I are going and he has never been to Vegas so was looking forward to that. So any comments, recommended drive routes, etc. is very much appreciated.

Driving from Las Vegas to Yosemite

A buddy and I made the LV-Yosemite drive about 12 years ago and took us a lot longer than we expected. Its a very robust, full day of driving to get to the park. Remember that when you get to the park gates, its still 50-60 miles to get to the center of the park where you can stay and sightsee!

Driving from Las Vegas to Yosemite

I%26#39;ve never been to Yosemite, I have been to Kings Canyon 6 times. It is GREAT. But please don%26#39;t tell anyone. As the Rangers say (They want to keep it small and uncrowded) ';If you liked it here, tell us. If you hated it, tell everyone else';.

Driving from Las Vegas to Kings Canyon would pretty much take all day. There is (At least on my last visit 8 years ago) 1 lodge there. Not sure if you plan on camping, or just driving in and out in one day.

If you can get a flight to Bakersfield, Fresno or Modesto (Not sure how much you%26#39;ll have to pay for these small market flights). You%26#39;ll be in a better position to drive to Kings Canyon and Yosemite, than you would with a flight to Oakland.

watch out

i tried to go through yosemite

ok it was in mid feb ,but there was no way through because of snow several feet deep

wasnt just new snowfalll either its like that ,that time of year

check out the road conditions, are they open!!

had to go up to reno(the pits) to get to san francisco!!!!

Have you considered a one way car rental. Pick up at Vages drop off SF. Its a long drive which ever way you go.

If you decide to go through Death vally and up to Lee Vining make sure the pass is clear over the mountains before you set of from vegas or you will have to go to Reno which is a long drive. When we were last there the pass was still closed on 4 th June, The southern route is through Barstow, Bakersfield , Visalia, is a longer , but not as long as going to Reno. It would give you the oppertunity of also seeing with a small de-tour ( if there is anything small in the US) r Sequoia Np and Kings Canyon NP. On leaving Yosemite you could do another small de-tour on you way to Modesto and Oakland To Atwater. There is one of the most wonderfull Aircraft musuams you are ever likly to see (unless you come to Britian of course) its also got a british classic in there. Have a nice drive
