Picked up on your lighter posts......food for thought. Do you know if a similar rule applies on the aberdeen to gatwick flight?

luci5

Hiya Brocher, fit like?!

Nae idea about the ABZ-LGW flight, but think it would be OK as this new ruling appears to be a US thing. However if you did carry a lighter/matches, you%26#39;d have to dump them for your transatlantic flight. I%26#39;ve already dug out a couple of match books I picked up at a restaurant yonks ago. I%26#39;ve no idea if it%26#39;s even possible to buy them here.

Fae a Blue Mogganer!

How long before show to pick up tickets?

Hi

I have booked Mystere at TI and Mamma Mia at the Mandalay Bay. What is the latest time before the shows should I pick up the tickets? It doesn%26#39;t say anything on the email confirmation. Would the Ticket Office be open all day or just in the evening?

I don%26#39;t want to make two trips to the MB if one would do.

Thanks.

How long before show to pick up tickets?

I would arrive at the box office 1-hour before the show.

How long before show to pick up tickets?

Thanks VHB, will do.

Trip Report March 10-13, 2005.

Just got back from Vegas and wanted to post a trip report.

Thursday, March 10 (6:30pm) - Arrived at the airport 15 minutes early with a smooth flight from Indy, to Cleveland, then Vegas. Our baggage was already at baggage claim when we made it down to the area. The line for taxi%26#39;s was fairly long, but it did move quickly. Got in a cab and the driver asked if we had ever been to Vegas before and I advised him that it was my 5 or 6 time out there, I think he was considering using the tunnel, but didn%26#39;t when I answered. We got to the Aladdin at 7:10 and check in was very, very quick. I had a block of three rooms reserved and asked the girl if we could all get upgrades, she smiled and said she would be glad to do it. So we ened up all getting Bellagio Fountain View rooms. After she said yes I did slip her a few bucks for her troubles. After grabbing a quick shower we dinned at P.F. Chang%26#39;s where the food was great as ussual. After dinner some members of our party were tired from traveling but some wanted to venture out for a bit, so we headed to the Bellagio for drinks.

Friday, March 11 - Began the day with the all you can eat breakfast at Paris. Wow what a selection. Something for eveyone and it was very fairly priced. Walked around the rest of day. Saw many of the casinos and did some shopping at the Forum shops. It was the first time we were there since the newest expansion and wow is it even bigger now. I totally understand why this mall is the highest grossing retail space in America. Friday night we dinned at II Fornaio at NYNY. It was very good Italian food and was decently priced. We had a nice big table on their patio so we could do a little people watching while we had dinner. After dinner went over to the Monte Carlo for some craps action. to my surprise they had a few $5 tables so we played that. I almost doubled my money so I was happy.

Saturday, March 12 - More walking around and sight seeing. Took the ladies up to the fashion mall and the guys went to find some more afternoon craps. All the tables we really full every where and it was hard finding anything to fit our budget. That evening we dinned at The Steakhouse @ Circus Circus. I can not believe a place like this is inside a dump like CC. The food was very good for fairly decent prices. The CC is an absolute dump however, and we even saw a drug deal in the parking lot while waiting for a cab to go back to the main area of the strip. After leaving craphole craphole, I mean Circus Circus, we went back to the Aladdin to play alittle more. Took a pretty good beating at the craps and BJ table and desided to sit in the Living Room bar instead of sit at cold tables.

Sunday, March 13 - Well it was time to leave and we were all sad. Ended the trip with brunch at Monamia at Paris on the patio. Got to sit out in the vegas weather for one last time until heading back to Indy (Or thought we were heading back, got stuck in Chicago for the night and returned Monday morning to Indy). All in all it was a great trip. The Aladdin is a a very nice hotel for the money. Its location is excellent and it has a very friendly staff. The couple issues I had witht he hotel are the bathroom pipes are a little noizy when water is running in your next door neighbors room and the billing department billed my credit card for my room and another roon in my party when they should have only billed me for one. Not huge issues. I would definitely recommend this hotel for someone looking to stay in vegas.

Trip Report March 10-13, 2005.

Just a quick question - did you have to book for the steakhouse at CC or just walk in??? After everything I have heard about it I really want to pay a visit...Thanks...

Trip Report March 10-13, 2005.

We made a reservation about 5 days prior to visiting. That enabled us to get our ideal time for dinning. When we did arrive another couple was in line before us asking if they could get in (it was 7:30) and the guy told them their first opening was at 10:30 pm. So you might want to make a reservation.

Thanks for the heads up - will definately book...

ghost bar

Does anyone know if you can get into this place without a cover charge, reason being, I%26#39;d just like to take a few photo%26#39;s from the top, have a quick beer or two, then move on, my camera is not one you can just slip in my pocket ( canon digital rebel, uk version), so dont want to carry it with me all night in a club.

Cheers in advance

ghost bar

Have a local lady take pictures for you, cause they%26#39;re really the only ones who can get in for free. And if your going during this time, ghostbar is gonna be hella packed, so it%26#39;ll be though even getting in.

Always a cover at the Ghost Bar. Voo Doo Lounge at the Rio (Across the sreeet from Palms) There is no cover between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Thanks to you both for the replies, I%26#39;ll settle for the VooDoo Lounge.

Has anyone stayed at the New York New York and used the pool area? Is it as bad as people say it is?

    Ny Ny Pool

    Yep!

It really depends what you are looking for though. the pool is tiny with literally no theming or disguise. the coaster is constantly circling overhead and the loungers a re few and far between, although we did get great service fromt he attendant guy who found us spare loungers and placed them together, but it was cramped - and this was only the end of April!!!

I thought I was seeing things last night on the TV when during a commercial break an advert for Luxor was shown. Perhaps it%26#39;s something to do with the currency rates between US and UK at the moment !

Can you use other Hotels Pools?

Hello, I%26#39;m staying at the Ny Ny the end of May and heard it doesnt have the best pool... Does any hotels allow non-guest to use their pools? I know the MGM and Ny Ny are owned by the same people can you use the MGM%26#39;s pool if you stay at Ny Ny? Thanx...

Can you use other Hotels Pools?

Tabu, no, SOL, ain%26#39;t going to happen for non-residents, no-way jose. That should sum it up.

Can you use other Hotels Pools?

    HomeBoy,

You forgot about the paid Pool Parties. That is the ONE way where you can use another hotels pool. But, a lot of hotels don%26#39;t allow you to swim during the pool parties. Just drink and dance in the area around the pool.

    Lyndz,

You can try sneaking in. But the general rule is you must be staying at a certain hotel to use their pool. A room key is usually needed to verify that you belong there.

    Joe

No, and you wouldn%26#39;t want to anyway. It would feel like a 1/2-mile walk getting from your NYNY room to the MGM pool area, not kidding. It%26#39;s a major hike even if you%26#39;re staying at MGM.

But don%26#39;t worry, you won%26#39;t be disappointed at NYNY.

...just a P.S. to VM%26#39;s thought that maybe you could sneak in. Nix on that, too. MGM pool area has a turnstile entrance and on-the-ball staffers who will ask for a room key and room #. I was surprised by how ';tight'; their pool entrance security was compared to other hotels I%26#39;ve stayed at.

My parents and my husband and I will be staying at Bellagio, but my sister and her husband will be staying at Aladin. My parents are 75 and won%26#39;t be swimming. Would it be wrong for my sister and husband to use my parents room key to swim with us at Bellagio?

Thanx for the info everyone.. Has anyone stayed at the Ny Ny and used the pool? How is it?

Tell the security guards that you just checked out, and your flight isn%26#39;t until late afternoon and that front dest is holding your bags. It worked for us at C.P., Venetian, Flamingo, and Palms....the only place we couldn%26#39;t get in was the Hard Rock. Just act sincere when you LIE..haha

VM, didn%26#39;t sound like a pool party to me. I do know if you are area resident, you can pay to get in some pools. I agree pool parties can be arranged, if you have the $$$$.

    Chattykkathy,

Yes it would be wrong, but I would do it anyway.

NYNY isn%26#39;t that bad...it%26#39;s just looks like you are in the middle of the city, kinda plain....good mixed drinks though. They had plenty of lounge chairs.

Any canyon tours shorter than 8 hours?

I will be coming to vegas for 4 days in april and would like to see the grand canyon.

All the tours that i have seen so far have been for at least 8 hours, which as I am only there for 4 days seems a bit of a waste of a day.

Are there any companies that do a tour that doesnt take as long? I am not really interested in having a lunch and things like that included in it, i would just like to see the canyon/hoover dam and fly back.

    Thanks in advance

Any canyon tours shorter than 8 hours?

    Hammers,

The shortest that I%26#39;ve found is 30 minutes. Can%26#39;t find that one at the moment. www.scenicairlines.com/saws1gc_highlights.htm Has a 45 minute flight. Hotel - flight -hotel is about 3 hours.

For all of the tours google or yahoo Grand Canyon helicopter or plane. General rule of thumb, the cheaper the tour the shorter it is.

Landing 5pm Fri 25th March after a long flight from the UK. there will be just the 2 of us (boyfriend %26amp; me) As this is Easter weekend I am working on the assumption the airport will be very busy.

Do you suggest we just get a Cab or book a Limo or Towncar?

Land 5pm Fri 25th March - Get a Cab or book Limo / Towncar...

I am booking a limo, I have read you can wiat a while for a cab, this way you have no wait time.

If you go to vegas.com you can find companies.

omni is one also posted on here alot

Land 5pm Fri 25th March - Get a Cab or book Limo / Towncar...

You could check out the taxi line and if too long, there is a door marked limos, where you could rent either a towncar or limo without a reservation.

Here%26#39;s the site for the limo service we use and their website.

    http://www.presidentiallimolv.com/

Click on the car of your choice and it will show the cost. They usually have a rose for each women and a stock bar. When you use it, you have it for 1 hour which includes the wait at the baggage area for you. Then we usually have them drive us down the strip which can be great with all the lights on.

My husband and I were there in Feb and took a limo from airport to Belligio with another couple going there also. We asked around while waiting to pick up our luggage and they were more than willing to split the cost of the limo. We did not have a reservation as there are some there at airport already. It was great and he drove us straight to the front door of Belligio. This is how we will do it from now on. Have a great trip!

We booked a Sedan through www.lasvegastransportation.com. It was $37 +tip, he met in baggage claim and took all of our luggage to the car. He made a stop at the Vons grocery store so we could get some beer, liquor and snacks. The car is perfect for two people.

Call Las Vegas Limousines at 1-888-696-4400 or 1-702-739-8414. The rates for a limo is usually $43.00 without tip. They will be waiting for you when you get off the plane.

Can anyone provide any quidance as to what the difference would be for hiring a Town Car for an hour for transfer from the airport vs. getting a taxi, having the taxi stop at a liquor store and then onto Mandalay Bay? Assuming the towncar is $35 per hour plus tip.

    English soccer?

Where can i watch cup semi finals on April 15th coming with my 22yr old son for a ';boys week';we are staying at the Paris hotel is there anywhere near?I think the match will kick off at 4.00a.m (E.P.T.)

    English soccer?

Nine Fine Irishmen or the ESPNZone at NYNY hotel will probably be your best bets for catching this game. George and Joanna posted that they were charged $20 to watch a match at the Crown and Anchor. And found out after that the game was on a free network.

    English soccer?

you will probably find it on a screen in one of the sports books..

We will be first time visitor to vegas and will be there for about 48 hours. I am wondering if it is a good idea to squueze in a show or skip it this time as we may need all the time to see around.

Currently I am debating on seeing either Mamma mia or Blue Man group shot down V becaue of bad reviews on this forum.

We plan to spend most time on the stip and will try to go to Fremont st to wahc the light show there for a few hours and also try the Main station buffet.

Ist time visitor and a show

Do you love the music of ABBA? If so mama mia is right for you. If you like visual comedy and loud drums go see Blue Man Group.

you must be going on a slow night that it is a very good rate, if it is that slow they will offer you a suite upgrade during checkin for probably $50, offer $25

    mandalay

For Mandalay Bay that is a very good rate!!! Better grab it.

What is the weather like the end of June and has anyone taken the ATV tours, city bus tour or horseback riding? Any ideas what would be a blast for a 16 year old and the best hotel to stay?

Mandalay Bay is one of the Finest hotels in Las Vegas. Certainly in the top 5. For horseback riding in June, I hope for the horses you%26#39;re doing this up on Mt Charleston. I know I wouldn%26#39;t want to have a saddle and rider on top of me when it%26#39;s 100 degrees outside. I%26#39;m sure your 16 year old will enjoy the wave pool at MB.

Good rate, Good Hotel! We stayed last year and we loved this hotel and we thought $160.00 per night was good. Have fun. The Pool is GREAT!!!

was that for a room or suite? did you use the gym at all? any comps? I am a priceline junky but I want to stay here other wise I would bid for ';resort'; is June crowded?

    June 4-7th

Anyone know if something%26#39;s going on this weekend in Vegas? It seems like most hotels are priced higher than usual.

    June 4-7th

The conventions that start or end between June 4th and the 8th will be bringing in over 100,000 people. That will cause a spike in room rates. http://www.pcap.com/lvconv.htm#Jun05 Shows the list.

    June 4-7th

Do you know of any way to get a room at a reasonable rate? We%26#39;d like to stay in the area of Harrah%26#39;s %26amp; Flamingo since those are in a great location and they usually are fairly reasonably priced. Thanks!

If you don%26#39;t like the rates on the hotels website you can try Hotwire or Priceline.com. But there is not telling what hotel you%26#39;re going to get. You can join the hotels players club online and see if that gets you a discount. Don%26#39;t expect that you can wait and watch while the price goes down. Book as soon as you can.

we want to make the most out of our short trip to Vegas. I%26#39;ve heard Rio has the best buffet, otherwise where would you go to have a good buffet, breakfast or lunch. Also, what shows to see? We would rather see comedian or Cirque or Blue Man, no female revue shows... Also is there a discount outlet to get last minute tickets for 1/2 price?

In Vegas only 72 hours, Where would you eat, what would your...

Paris has a pretty sweet buffet. ';O'; is a bit risque but probably the best show in Vegas right now. 72 hours is plenty. Vegas is a small city, and if you don%26#39;t just sit down and waste the money gambeling you can see a lot. A lot of first timers or people who haven%26#39;t seen Vegas for a few years like to go around to the different hotels, there%26#39;s a lot of cool things to see there and shop. With the monorail in place, you don%26#39;t have to sweat in the high temps.

In Vegas only 72 hours, Where would you eat, what would your...

Hi I would highly recommend the Spice Market Buffet at the Alladin. Rio buffet is a seafood one. It is by far the best, but pricey and you have to like seafood.

Free show is Fremont experience. Lots of fun. Downtown.

The breakfast buffet at Paris is really good and would be a great way to start the day. Mystere at Treasure Island is an excellent show and a little less expensive than %26#39;O%26#39;.

    Which Steakhouse is Better?

My brother and I will be down there in a couple weeks and want to have a great Steak dinner.

Which one of these would you recomend?

    Binion%26#39;s Ranch Steakhouse-

    The Palm-

    Alan Albert%26#39;s-

    Les Artistes at Paris

    Any other suggestions? Thanks!

    Which Steakhouse is Better?

If you want the best consider The Steakhouse in Circus Circus. It is better food, service, atmosphere and prices.

    Which Steakhouse is Better?

    Gallagher%26#39;s NYNY.

I have tried them all. CC Steakhouse has em all beat, no contest.

The common thread on Tripadvisor reviews has the STeakhouse at Circus Circus as number one, hands down.

You should go there. I%26#39;ll be there at the end of March, can%26#39;t wait.

I know this is getting old, I am certainly getting tired of posting about it, but the CC Steakhouse is the best in town and least expensive on the strip.

I think the name ';Steakhouse'; is an understatement as it also has some of the best seafood in town. I have lived here most of my life, work as a hotel manager, can afford any place in town, and I always choose the Steakhouse for special occasions. Otherwise for just a Saturday night steak meal I go to Billy Bob%26#39;s @ Sam%26#39;s Town. They serve sides of beef they call steaks. Price is a little lower, not as crowded, but it has a cheezy cowboy theme and the steaks are quite as good.

The only other place in town that is equal to the CC Steakhouse in food quality is Del Friscos. However at a much higher cost. So IMHO why pay more.

Can I ask Vegashomeboy the price range for the Steakhouse and how far in advance you should make reservations? Thanks!

capital grill, across the street from wynn...

try the coffee rubbed bone in rib eye, u do not taste the coffee.

    it is fantastic.........

also my other favorite is delmonicos at venetian, bone in

    rib eye is the best..........

Sure you can ask. Entrees range from $15-to-$35. That includes salad or soup, veggie, entree, and bread. Lobster and King Crab is market priced.

Thanks. What about the length of time in advanced to make reservations? We leave in exactly a month from now.

Sorry, ten days in advance is the most they will accept unless it is a large party. Make them ASAP

  • Events Apr 7-11 & Signature Drinks

    Hi All -

First off, thanks again to everyone that has helped me out the past few weeks. Your willingness to share your knoweldge is appreciated!

Okay, on to my latest round of questions:

QUESTION #1 - Is there anything special going on April 7-11, 2005 (concerts, events in town, etc?).

QUESTION #2 - A friend of mine plays a game where each time he goes to Vegas, he tries to drink at least one ';signature drink'; at each hotel on the strip. I doubt he has ever completed his goal in one trip, but he has great stories to tell! I know about the frozen drinks in the big plastic Effiel Tower at Paris, but that%26#39;s about it. Any suggestions? Talk about a bar crawl!

    Thanks Again!

Events Apr 7-11 %26amp; Signature Drinks

Funny you brought up the signature drinks, I still tell the story about getting a drink at a little bar off the main casino at Caesers. It was a BIG fish bowl glass that has Caesers engraved in gold with a shot glass hanging off of it. The whole thing was made up of ';spirits'; and the shot was 151. It was pricey for $30 but you got to keep the sovenier and a buzz that I%26#39;ve never experienced before. One thing I%26#39;ve noticed, I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ve ever had a hangover in Vegas.....I%26#39;m knocking on wood!!!!

Events Apr 7-11 %26amp; Signature Drinks

If you plan on combining signature drinks, do get the signature barf bag. And signature Tylenol for your hangover the next day. Not a good idea to mix different alcohols.

Ah, of course it%26#39;s a good idea to mix your alcohols. What%26#39;s Vegas without a full complement of alcohols jacking up your system? LOL

Haven%26#39;t been to Vegas for a couple of years, so I don%26#39;t know if they do it anymore, but Slots-o-Fun used to feature drinks in half-yard cups. I think I got a half-yard of Long Island Ice Tea for $7 or something ridiculously cheap like that, then took it with me on my tour of the Strip. Had a great night and a quintessential Vegas drinking experience...

Another signature drink was the big ';fishbowl'; sized drink at Quark%26#39;s (sp?) bar at the Las Vegas Hilton. Don%26#39;t remember what was in it (barely remember getting out of the bar alive, lol), but four of us each grabbed a straw and polished a couple of those bad boys off in no time...

Don%26#39;t sweat the Tylenol - just take two Bloody Marys or Mimosas in the morning and you%26#39;ll be off for another great day in Vegas...

(Actually, seriously, don%26#39;t take Tylenol for a hangover - it will accelerate the damage the alcohol does to your liver. Aspirin is a better option.)

    Restaurant suggestions

    ChrisM,

Whatever you do, stay away from eating at MB. Great place for drinks, dancing and partying but the food as something missing like taste. Okay there are some exceptions, but overall your better taking your money to other hotels for food. My top choices for you:

    Il Mulino

    Del Frisco%26#39;s

    Smith %26amp; Wollensky%26#39;s

I believe all of these are in NYC as well. Didn%26#39;t know if you wanted to venture out.

    Restaurant suggestions

Dont do the rainforest cafe in the MGM, the atmosphere was cooler than, and the gift shop was cute with cute gifts, a little pricy, but the food and sevice sucked major.....

Itallian: Battistas Hole In the Wall for near strip location. Otherwise San Lorenzo @ Texas Staion, Carraba%26#39;s, and my favorite is Ventano Itallian Corner in Henderson. If you must have something on the strip and have no regard for money try Terazza @ CP

Steak and Seafood, no contest the Steakhouse in Circus Circus is the best in town and least expensive on the strip

American Bistro, Rosemary%26#39;s best resaurant in town period., also very affordable.

Great suggestions, Keep them coming! We would like to try the other hotels for dinner since we are staying at MB we definitely wanted to go elsewhere too. Thanks CM

ChrisM, you being from NY you might want to scratch Italian from you list of restaurants, unless you do not have any good places in your area. LV has some decent Italian places, but none that can compare to NY.

I second the Rosemarys and Steakhouse suggestion really cannot improve over these two places for what they serve. There are two places downtown that really shine. One is Andres, it is French cuisine and fantastic. The other is Hugos Cellar located in Four Queens.

    Good Luck...

Mandalay Bay has a very enjoyable lunch or dinner buffet

    called The Bayside Buffet .

Mostly american food and homemade favorites such as

mashed potato, carved ham , macaroni and cheese and

    deserts.

Ask to be seated by the floor to ceiling windows that show

a nice view of the beach and swimming pool area.

Getting around from TI with no car

Hey guys! Just a little curious from those in the know: We are staying at TI in a few weekends and not planning on renting a car. It seems like most of the strip can be covered via walking, taxi, or monorail. How many have experience being carless on the strip, and is there any good advice?

Also, on the same topic, one thing we are worried about is making it from TI to Bellagio for the O early evening show. Any advice on what time to get to Bellagio, and even better, how to get there?

Getting around from TI with no car

    Gator-

While I%26#39;m no local expert like some on here, I have been to Vegas upwards of 10-15 times and have stayed at TI a few times. If your not planning any %26#39;side%26#39; trips outside of Vegas, your probably better off w/o a car. The hassle of sitting in traffic going from one casino to another doesn%26#39;t seem worth it. You can walk everywhere, or you can easily grab a cab (at casinos only) or the monorail if need be. Half the fun, to me, is walking the strip, going through the casinos and seeing how amazing they are- obviously, you don%26#39;t get that sitting in a car. To your point, don%26#39;t worry about a car (get a cab or limo from the airport to TI- cab will run you $15-$20 w/ tip), walk the strip, and just allow time to get places (lots of people to manuever around). If it were me, I%26#39;d allow 1 hr. to get to Bellagio, get your tickets, etc.

    Have fun

Getting around from TI with no car

I wouldn%26#39;t bother with a car staying at TI unless you%26#39;re thinking about heading out to the Dam or something similar. You can easily walk to Mirage, CP, Bellagio, Venetian, Paris and others. Its probably a $10 cab ride to the far south end of the strip is you want to check Mandalay Bay and the other hotels at that end.

We went to O about a year ago - its fantastic. We arrived an hour early and that was more then enough. I%26#39;d probably take a cab from TI for the show. It should only be about $5.

    Gator,

You can walk from TI to Bellagio, but if your wife is going to be all dressed up for the performance and wearing new or high heeled shoes take a cab or rent a limo.

    Joe

VM - the wife%26#39;s dress up shoes were a good amount of the concern! :)

Thanks for the advice all, I appreciate it!

I%26#39;m not much help on the question you have however

wanted to let you know that TI is a great location and

the rooms are done really nice (especially the suites)

We stayed at TI 3years ago and walked to the Monte Carlo

2 doors down and then took the monte carlo monorail system

    to the Bellagio.

    Hope this helps.

You can purchase a day pass for the bus for $5 dollars a piece. It is good for 24 hours from purchase time. TI is great! You are right next door to The Fashion Show Mall if you need any other clothing. Cabs are great, but remember theres a lot of traffic at night time. Alow for it. Better to stand and wait at the theatre than sitting in a cab or bus wondering ';will we make it';. Enjoy yourselfs.

1st time staying at the MGM

Ok people, my girl has always wanted to stay here, and I%26#39;ve just made reservations for two nights. Along with some other goodies, they gave us a $35 dining credit.

May I first ask where should we eat here?

Next let me ask what I should know about the MGM.

    Thanks!

1st time staying at the MGM

The staff is rude and the place is huge. Also the MGM does not have the ideal location on the strip.

1st time staying at the MGM

I would have to disagree. I thought it was in a great place on the strip. You are so convenient to NYNY, Excalibur and Tropicana. Plus the monorail stops here. We love the MGM. The pool area is great spot to nap at (after being up all night) and have a poolside drink. Have a great time!

Have you guys and gals ever eaten at any of the MGM restaraunts? I%26#39;m curious about the food items and the prices....

Also wondering if there are any nice attractions other than the Lions and the pool?

The Studio Cafe is a good place to have a nice lunch (if it is still there). Good selection of sandwiches, burgers, etc...

I think the Lions are the only real attraction there. I hear they have done quite a bit of renovation since I was last there in June, 2004. New sportsbook, news bars/clubs, etc...

Nice hotel. They have a wide range of upscale restaurants that are probably described on their website. $35 won%26#39;t go too far, believe me, even at the MGM 24-hour cafe (Studio Cafe). There even a basic breakfast for two (egg platter, coffee, juice) will run you $30 with tip.

Thanks for the help so far!

    Keep those responses coming please!!!

Stupid Question RE: America West Vacations

This is a stupid question unless you%26#39;re psychic, but does anyone know if their rates will drop for July? The package deal they currently are showing for July from JFK staying at the Orleans is a decent price. But I am wondering if I should wait and see if they lower rates in the next couple of months. What are your thoughts, if any?

Stupid Question RE: America West Vacations

It is hotter than hell in July. Most of the casinos have great deals then. If it were me I would wait a bit and hope for a better deal.

Stupid Question RE: America West Vacations

I am also going in July (3-7) and went through America West. I got a better deal to book the flight through them and then book the hotel directly. This way we also get a better chance of an upgrade at check-in. I have noticed that the prices went up about $20 since last week. Hope this helps!

  • Monte Carlo Daily Slot Tournaments?

    Hi Everyone,

Going to Vegas end of March to Paris for a slot tournament and when I was investigating I heard about ones at Monte Carlo. Anyone been in it and do you have to be staying there to play?

    Any info would be appreciated.

Can any guest at Luxor use the inclinators?

Staying at Luxor in August. Staying in tower rooms. Can we use the inclinators if not in pyramid rooms. If we want a quiet room is it best to request away from eleviators or would we have far to walk? Thanks for your help.

Can any guest at Luxor use the inclinators?

when i stayed there last year only you needed to show a room key valid for that inclinator..

Can any guest at Luxor use the inclinators?

Thanks for that info ukrhinos. Anything else worthy of note at Luxor. We are a family of 5.

Thanks for that info ukrhinos. Anything else worthy of note at Luxor. We are a family of 5.

The Towers which are FAR SUPERIOR to the Pyramid Rooms (I have stayed in both) are NOT accessible via the Inclinators. I was in the West Tower last month. It is much quieter than the Pyramid rooms which are downright NOISY. THe Tower rooms are also much larger. Ask for a high floor, make sure they don%26#39;t stick you in a ground level room

Just returned from stay at Luxor....you will love it.....Egyptian decor everywhere.

If your family of 5 includes kids, this is perfect for you. Upstairs attraction room has everything for kids, video room, etc. And a food court that has McDonalds, Svenson Ice Cream, pizza, Nathans (hot dogs, nachos, etc.) bakery, etc.

Plus there is a walk thru to Excalibur, they cater to kids. Also close to MGM and NYNY (they have a roller coaster on outside of hotel)

But if no kids involved, you will still enjoy yourself .

Happy to answer any specific questions you may have.

Many thanks everyone . Just joined Tripadviser recently and found it to be of great help. We arrive there on a Friday beginning of August about 3 pm.Should we expect long queues at check-in. I am probably going to sound stupid but..........what is an Inclinator? Is it the same or similar to an escalator?

The luxor was awesome, went last april and wa not dissapointed at all..Was upgraded to a tower room at no additional charge, the clerk at the desk did it all on her own..

    loved it absolutely...

inclinator is an elevator that goes up the inside of the pyramid - at an angle.. its noisy when you are in it and a bit scary at first, but a lot of fun!

I found the pyramid room was great. we were on the 20th floor, was a lovely room and very quiet. amazing view of mandalay bay tower. in the standard pyramid rooms you dont get a bath but a high quality shower.

My personal opinion was that as i was at the luxor i wanted to experience staying in the pyramid, but i ive heard the tower rooms are bigger if not as romantic!

    Lighters/Matches in the airport.....

I am reading conflicting items in regards to having lighters and/or matches beyond security checkpoints....does anyone have any recent experience with this? What are the actual rules? One sight I look at says you can take them in your carry-on but not in your checked baggage, another says just the opposite. Does this mean that once you get past security, you will no longer be able to smoke? It lists matches too......

    Lighters/Matches in the airport.....

You can bring 2 lighters and 4 matchbooks on carryon only..they are not allowed in checked bags..

    Lighters/Matches in the airport.....

    pj

I have contacted both my airline and the TSA on this subjuct and the law currently is absolutley no lighters, carry-on or checked. Safety matches (those that cannot be struck on any surface) are legal carry on. You are allowed up to four books so you can smoke up to 80 of those puppys in the time between security and take-off. In the smoking area of course. A suggestion from a friend is to keep the smokes and the matches in your pocket and noone will even blink. Also if you should get patted down and they say you cant have them dont argue. Thats one fight you wont win. Just get a lite from someone else who made it in. Hope all this helps.

    Fred

Just checked the TSA list of prohibited items. All lighters have been added to it. The ban is currently in effect, but a grace period runs until April 14. After that, no lighters beyound security. 4 books of matches are still allowed. Reference is www.tsa.gov.

    luvbichons

Dont mean to argue but the law regarding lighters changed this month. I have heard there wont be strict enforcement for a while but why get them excited? Matches work just as well and a Bic is buck something. If you take a nice lighter and they confiscate it, you just saw that lighter for the last time.

    Matt

HMMMMM...conflicting answers here too. Now I am really confused.

    Nsane,

ALL lighters are Banned EVEN FROM YOUR CARRY-ON....my husband smokes cigars and his lighter (Bic disposable) is now the property of TSA.

I read both lighters and matches were prohibited. I just want a way to light our cigarettes after security whether it be matches or a lighter.

    oops sorry nsane,

America West website had a link to TSA and that what it said...unless I missed something....sorry if I got you all excited...

I just found (on the website of my airport - Milwaukee) that you ARE allowed up to 4 books of matches past security. Is this nationwide....how about McCarren?

I will be getting $25 dining credit when I stay at MGM and wondering where to use there. Any restaurants suggestions?

    Thanks

    MGM eating advice

The best thing MGM has going for it (in my opinopn, of course) are it%26#39;s restaurants!

Can you use it in any restaurant? I loved Emeril%26#39;s Fish House, and that would be my first choice, but it certainly won%26#39;t cover the bill :)

    MGM eating advice

    r the buffet any good?

if yes which one BF, lunch or dinner?

We did the breakfast buffet at MGM last summer and really enjoyed it. I haven%26#39;t tried their lunch or dinner.

The dinner buffet is good. Nothing really exotic or anything like that, but food tasted good and was right temps (my buffet pet peve).

AVOID the little cafe just off the casino, I can%26#39;t recall the name, but it was awful, awful food, awful service, awful environment. We ate there for breakfast and it took 1/2 hour to get some eggs %26amp; bacon that eventually came out WAY undercooked. Our server just said that they were busy, she would bring us some danish at no charge, which were awful.

We eat the MGM buffet each time we have stayed in Vegas last year. (We stayed at another hotel.) One of the times that we went for breakfast, they were also getting ready to put lunch out so we got both at the breakfast price. You could easily do the breakfast or lunch (weekday) buffets on your dining credit.

    Enjoy.

Just back from Vegas this weekend. Ate at MGM last nite at Fiamma - absolutely delicious - highly recommended. Heard Craftsteak and Nobhill are really good too.

    airport Check-in for Ballys

Wondering is it worth my time or should i just bear with the line upon arrival. I do hope for a room with a view of Bellagio and I don%26#39;t think airport check-in can accomodate my request.

    Any suggestions?

    airport Check-in for Ballys

My husband and I are staying at Bally%26#39;s April 24-28, and we wondered the same thing. We are celebrating our 1-year wedding anniversary in LV, and we would like to check on an upgrade, if available. Like you, we don%26#39;t know whether we%26#39;d have a better shot by waiting until we actually get to the hotel to ask.

    airport Check-in for Ballys

Last week I did airport check-in for Paris Hotel.....it was wonderful. I was done by the time my bags arrived.....asked for upgrade, if possible, and was immediately offered an upgrade with view of Bellagio.......couldn%26#39;t possibly have done any better at hotel check-in

Good luck and have a wonderful trip.

An upgrade is always possible but was there a price?

No charge for upgrade at Paris but I did tip the lady $20.00 AFTER the upgrade in appreciation......thought that was a great deal for a 3 nite upgrade which would have been $45.00 per nite. Think it probably just depends on availability of rooms but feel they are as accommodating as possible.

It really depends on the time and day you are going. I worked there for 10 yrs as a 21 dealer and it isn%26#39;t bad checking in when you get there. If it is busy just leave your bags with the bell man but tip him at least 5 bucks, everyone in Vegas works for money so don%26#39;t be cheap otherwise you stay will not be as pleasant. Money really does talk!!

I would highly recommend checking in at the airport. It was so fast and friendly and I was upgraded to a suite with out even asking.

IP- anyone stayed in a king suite?

Are the king suites nice at the IP nice? I am heading out with a couple of friends (yes, Vegasman, we are putting 3 in the room and told the casino, and are payng the extra $20 a night) and wanted to know if they are nice. I am having a friend get in early in the AM, is there anything I should tell him to ask for to make sure the room is nice (i.e. in the tower etc?)

    Thanks to all

IP- anyone stayed in a king suite?

Hope somebody answers you because I want to know too. Same thing - we are going in April with 3 in the room. Right now I have scheduled for a regular room but am thinking of paying for an upgrade to the king bedded suite.

IP- anyone stayed in a king suite?

Even if you haven%26#39;t stayed in the King Suite- is there an area where the nice rooms are?

  • Baccarat question

Is Baccarat really as easy as betting who comes closer to the number 9-the player or banker? Or is there more to it?

    Baccarat question

There are 3 betting options at baccarat. You can bet that the Players hand will be closer to 9 than the Bankers hand. Or you can bet that the Bankers hand will be closer to 9 than the Players hand. Or you can bet that there will be a Tie. a 5% commission is taken when you bet on the banker and win. Player hand pays even money and a Tie pays 8:1. You will see people keeping track of each hand played in order to guess which will win the next hand. When they are right you will hear them yell and scream. When they are wrong, they scratch their heads and guess again.

    Baccarat question

Any game I have no hope of spelling can be one that I have any chance of winning.

Thanks VM! I think I may try this when I come out. It seems pretty basic-is there any house edge at all? To me it seems there wouldnt be. So I wonder why they take the 5% commission on a banker win? hmmmm

The 5% commission is the house advatage. The rules for taking a card, not taking a card (Set by the casino, no player decisions here) favor the Bankers hand to win just a little more often than the players hand. That is why you have to pay when you bet on the Bankers hand and win.

I always see them play in a in a special room with very high limits, is there a cheap game somewhere.?

    Bob

Baccarat is known for its ';James Bond appeal';, and available in high limit rooms as well as aorund the casino in the lower limit areas. I believe when its %26#39;lower%26#39; limits, its called Mini-baccarat, and you aren%26#39;t allowed to touch and feel and see the cards. Yes in high-limit room where they play Baccarat, you can examine and touch and feel the cards. ohhhhhh exciting!

I just love how peopel sit there and track the numbers. It is the game based solely on chance and luck around. OH! You don%26#39;t lose your money if a tie shows up and you placed a bet on the banker or on the player. And a TIE bet pays huge amouints of 8 to 1 or 9 to 1 depending on the casino. Player pays 1-1 and Banker pays 1-.95.

    Bob,

Orleans has Mini Baccarat at $5 or $40 minimum.

    Joe

    Bob,

    That%26#39;s $5 and $10 minimum.

    Joe

gold coast has a lot of mini baccarat tables.

    low limits

good luck, i think its one of the best bets in house

besides pass line with odds in craps.

Does anyone know of any systems out there for sale that are really bad as far as losses per shoe?

    ?? for those who've stayed at Bellagio . . .

    Hey Guys . . .

For those of you who have checked in or seen the lobby area during a Thursday at around 4 in the afternoon, do you recall how long the check-in lines were at the time.

I was just curious how long I should be expecting to wait when I check-in, thanks!!

    ?? for those who've stayed at Bellagio . . .

    Hi Ansel,

I went to Bellagio in Dec 04 (during Xmas) and the lines were not that long but still about a 10 minute wait. We asked for ';Invited Guest'; check in since we had a deal through their Players Club. I would think that you might try that but our wait was not any longer.

    zbethg

    ?? for those who've stayed at Bellagio . . .

How long is the wait possibly at 10:00 a.m. on a Tuesday at Bellagio?

4:00 will be busier than 10:00 a.m. but it all depends on who%26#39;s walking in the door at that time.

We checked in at 11:00 a.m. and had about a 10 minute wait. Our friends checked in around 5:00 p.m. and had about a 15 min. wait. I did notice that there were times when very few people were in line and times when it was busy. A general rule is late afternoon is busier than morning. The hotels were bring in more registration clerks during the busy times.

With a 10:00 a.m. check-in you will most likely not get your room until later in the day. When we checked in at 11:00 we were able to get our room at that time. I think it depends on how full the hotel is at the time.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Aha, i know it%26#39;s like a totally obvioius dumb question, but I really do appreciate it!

the lines are not long. just remember they will try and get you to upgrade to a so called nicer room for $50 more a nite - my b/f wanted to; i didn%26#39;t, he won. It%26#39;s not worth it. the place is expensive enuff ; don%26#39;t fall for this when you check in. Spend the $50 on something else.

  • My Imperial Palace Review

My friends and I stayed at the Imperial Palace from March 7-11, 2005 for our Spring Break Trip. There were a lot of goods and bad with this hotel.

    The Bad

We got their deluxe rooms for 65.00/per night. That was exactly what they were worth. If these rooms were deluxe, I would hate to see the standard rooms. First off, the check in time was 3:00. I arrived at 12:00 and were assigned rooms. But I was asked to return at 3:00 to get our keys. I returned at 3:30, the assigned rooms were still not ready, so we settled with rooms right above Harrah???s Carnival Court. Yep, that meant no sleep until after 4:00 am. Both lamps in both rooms were broken, maintenance came on second day their to fix them. When room service was ordered by people, the trays were left in the hall until the next day. This meant old food was kicked around the hall and on our room door. The housekeeping was mediocre at best, we repeatedly asked for extras to no avail. Lastly, the cocktail waitresses service was horrible.

    The Good

There were some good points with the hotel services. The Spa was excellent, I received a massage, facial and salt scrub ($160). It was heaven to say the least. The casino was one of the most live casino on the strip. Always great music playing , the dealentertainers were fantastic, there is plenty of free entertainment. The Legends show was good , inexpensive and the talent was amazing. The auto collection was cool.

Overall, I would not stayed at the hotel again (unless the price was even cheaper), however, I would always stop here for the free entertainment and the very live casino.

    My Imperial Palace Review

Sounds exactley like it was when I was there in 1984. Now I%26#39;m regreting I didnt book there for this trip. The place is just somehow... cool. OLD VEGAS

    My Imperial Palace Review

The Auto Collection is one of the best free things to do, IMO. I also enjoyed the dealertainers. I got a kick out of Rick James. ;)

I also hate this hotel, but the auto collection is fantastic ! I will only stay there if it is free..

  • Golden Nugget Sportsbook??

Our group of 10 guys are heading for the 23-26th of March-- we are staying at the Nugget and curious what their sportsbook is like/free drinks/seating, etc.. or any other recommendations of books downtown... thanks..

    Golden Nugget Sportsbook??

GN is about the best downtown. I personally I have not gone there. Drinks at most hotels are done via coupons when you place a bet. Best sportsbook in LV is Stardust.

    Golden Nugget Sportsbook??

anyone else have any experience at the Nugget Sportsbook or anywhere else downtown? Hoping to have some fun there...

    Ascher

GN sportsbook is very nice, free drink coupons can be had for $20 wagers and the bar is right there. Only problem is that it is small. You probably would want to check out at least a couple of the mega-sports books like the Hilton and Stardust when a bunch of big games are going on at the same time. Park behind (east side) of Hilton for direct access to the sportsbook and park on the north side of Stardust.

    Steve,

Why go to the mega-books ?. Do you think GN will be too crowded to enyjoy the games ?

i stayed at the nugget last year - functional sports book but nothing more than that. compared to the mirage it%26#39;s a dump. at the mirage, drinks are easily available, chairs are comfortable, it%26#39;s spacious and good screens everywhere. best sports book i%26#39;ve been to.

Las Vegas 1/2 Price Ticket Booth

Has anyone used the 1/2 price ticket booth. Can you tell me what types of tickets were available the day you went? I am interested in seeing some magic show and would really like to get discounted tickets (so I can go to more shows on my budget!). Thanks for any replies.

Las Vegas 1/2 Price Ticket Booth

Wondering the same thing myself. Sounds like tickets come available around noon for evening shows, but I have no idea what the selection is like or how long the lines are.

Las Vegas 1/2 Price Ticket Booth

I think they are a good deal if you don%26#39;t have your heart set on a particular show. If you want to see a certain show I say book ahead so you make sure you get in. Most theaters are not that big, so all seats are okay, in general, but you obviously won%26#39;t get the best seats for half price.

We were in Vegas in November, not a real busy time and maybe waited a half hour. We had a rental car, so I actually dropped my girlfriend off on the Strip and by the time I parked the car and got back she was well into the line.

If you strike up a conversation with the people around you and debate about the different shows you will be through the line before you know it.

Me too ! I have been wondering what type of shows are available the day of show.

Our trip is still so far away (June) But I am soooooo excited !

What and where is the 1/2 price ticket booth? Someone fill me in on this please. Thanks, Mitzi

Most of the tickets available are for second tier shows (variety, comedians, magic, adult, and tributes).

The two ticket brokers that I%26#39;m aware of are located near MGM by the M%26amp;M store. They open around noon and only have tickets available for that day/night.

It%26#39;s a great deal if your schedule is flexible and you don%26#39;t have your heart set on a particular show.

Mitzi, there are at least three locations (and two different companies). All on the east side of the Strip. There is one in the Coke Bottle (across from Monte Carlo), one in Hawaiin Market, and one just south of Flamingo (the street, not the resort).

Best Room With A View At Mirage Hotel ???

Might be staying at Mirage in the month of August for anniversary

Question: Could someone please tell me what rooms are the

best at the Mirage that give the best views?

Are the windows from floor to ceiling??

    Thank You!

Best Room With A View At Mirage Hotel ???

Hi, I%26#39;ve not stayed at the Mirage but am planning to later this spring and I%26#39;ve asked this same question and got some replies that may be useful to you.

The only windows that are floor to ceiling are the upper 7 or 8 floors (don%26#39;t quote me on the exact number of floors, but they only have floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floors). On the lower floors the windows start at about waist level, I%26#39;ve heard. According to what I%26#39;ve heard many people say, the ';pool view'; rooms actually afford the best overall view of the strip, looking south. However, from these pool view rooms at Mirage, the new Augustus Tower at Caesar%26#39;s Palace now blocks everything that sits on the west side of the strip south of it, whereas previously you could see all the way down to Mandalay Bay. However, you can still see the east side of the Strip including the Eiffel Tower and all the way down to MGM from most pool view rooms. However, the new CP tower will cut off the Bellagio fountains and everything else on that side of the street.

The Volcano View rooms face the strip and afford views that have a slightly less expansive view of the strip, though you get good views of the hotels in the near vicinity (Venetian, Harrah%26#39;s, Flamingo, IP, TI, Casino Royale, and perhaps most welcome, a good view of the new Wynn), But from most volcano view rooms (the exception may be the very northern section of an upper floor) you don%26#39;t get the sweeping view south that you get from the pool view rooms. And that sweeping view south with all the strip hotels lined up like Christmas tree lights is arguably the most desirable view.

The mountain view rooms are just that, plus the freeway.

Hope this helps. And anybody else feel free to set me straight or offer opinions. I%26#39;m interested in this as well.

Best Room With A View At Mirage Hotel ???

I%26#39;m wondering if those much desirable floor to ceiling windows I%26#39;ve seen on their wesbite are only in really high end suites or if could be obtained as part of any comlpimetary upgrade you may be fortunate to smile sweetly enough for?!

And I posted practically the same question on another forum and got many of the same replies. i am doubtful about the pool views with the new caesars development though.

I too am staying in August!

I just stayed at the MIrage earlier this month on the 18th floor in a volcano view room. Here is a link to pictures I took from our room. We were on the North end of the building ,looking south down the strip. You can also see the type of windows are different on the higher few floors of the hotel.

    Here%26#39;s the link share.shutterfly.com/action/share/view…

    Hope this helps, Debbie

    Thanks debbie!

Were you staying in one of these rooms with the long windows then? Were you in a suite?

Hope you had a great time!

Debbie, great idea for shaing the pics.

Christy, I put together an album of my Mirage pics. We were on the 14th floor, pool view. The window was floor to celing (but needed to be cleaned). I included a pic from inside the room so you can see the window.

    Hope it helps!

    share.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=EeBt27FoycOIg

flbd No, just staying in a regular room, not a suite. It had the windows starting at halfway up the wall, about waist high.

We had a BALL!! It was our first trip and we can%26#39;t wait to go back again!

    Debbie

Hi there. Just got back from Vegas on the red eye this morning and we stayed at the Mirage. First, really nice place. I too was getting tired of people knocking things like carpets, sheets etc. We were in a tower deluxe room on the 24th floor with a vocano view facing the new Wynn and Treasure Island and the Venetian. The Wynn is gorgeous but took away any real mountain view there used to be. Bathrooms in the tower deluxe rooms are beautiful with separate shower/jacuzzi tub. Also note that the rooms on this and the 25th floor in the 100%26#39;s and 90%26#39;s are slightly bigger than the others. They would also have the same view on one side, mountain and highway view on the other. I was sorry I didn%26#39;t get the strip view, but wasn%26#39;t worth switching rooms and was very happy. We were able to watch all the helicopters fly by taking folks to and from Nascar. I also liked that we had our own elevator bank with suite floors A thru E - a nice touch. Room was very nicely appointed, turned down with chocolates every nite. Great bath ';stuff';.

The pool view is probably the best, but if you can%26#39;t get that, our view wasn%26#39;t bad. I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d want the highway/mountain view, but honestly you%26#39;re not in the room all that much. Our windows started halfway up, and the view was still great. And when you%26#39;re out on the street you can look up and see the spectacle anyway.

I can%26#39;t wait to go back - the Mirage was really great.

Me again - just got a chance to check out Debbie%26#39;s pix. We were in the tower in her picture #6, on the 24th floor. So we didn%26#39;t have the strip views she did. But gives you an idea of what to expect. Really nice hotel regardless.

Thank You everyone for your help!!

    Favorite clubs--weeknights--group of guys....

Hello---first of all, going for 4 nights and want to do some clubbing, how many realistically can we go to and party, considering the lines and having to go early to get in--1 a night max, right?

Also--fav. club suggestions? Light, Body English, and Rain are weekends only-

We are thinking top 3, Tangerine, VooDoo, and GhostBar.

I can get free admission to all of those as well--(be nice to save the 20$ right?)

    Thanks everyone....

    Favorite clubs--weeknights--group of guys....

no one has any favorite clubs?

    Favorite clubs--weeknights--group of guys....

What kind of club are you looking for? plain bar to get plastered in? young bar to pick up easy chicks? fancy bar to say you were there? or a dance club?

I went last march....Rain was the best (Sat), Light was 2nd (sun)...Ghostbar is okay, not really a club more chill no dancing awesome view. RA was cool. Haven%26#39;t been to Body English yet, I will in April though. Can%26#39;t wait. If you are looking to hook up then Rain is your bet. They was like 3 bachelorette parties going on these chicks were nuts.

Rum Jungle is awful... I know that much.

Ulo...sounds like Rain is your lucky club (wink).

For any of you young chaps wanting to have alot of fun with plenty of eye candy all night long...The Beach is great. I used to go there alot when I was single. I%26#39;m 30 now so I don%26#39;t make it there that often...

I think Rain would be fun, but I think its only open Th-Sun--were going Sun-Wed.

Tangerine looks real fun after looking into it, and so does VooDoo lounge---

Please--some more opinions-guys 22-23 not looking for just girls--want to have good drinks, dance--etc.

    Thanks

Rain is lame and WAY too crowded. Only so much incredibly Loud Rap one man like myself can take.

My vote would be tangerine. Love it.

You might want to try The Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay on Monday night, and Body English at the Hard Rock on Sunday nights. The Foundation Room is probably considered the ';hottest'; Monday night party, and DJ AM spins on Sundays at Hard Rock. You%26#39;ll definitely want to get in line early for Body English, I haven%26#39;t been there since May, but I heard the lines are still brutal, especially for guys.

    Have fun!

Anyone know about the line at Foundation Room at Mandalay?

Margaritaville will get hit up hard....

  • Question about the rooms at Flamingo

What part of the hotel are the nicer rooms located. When we check in what should I ask for to make sure that we do not get a dump of a room?

Question about the rooms at Flamingo

Ask for a remodeled room with a STRIP view !

Preferably, one facing Caesar%26#39;s Palace directly.

Le Reve-- Wynn's new show-- director of O and Mystere

I realize it hasn%26#39;t opened yet but are there any rumors on what it may be like? Now I wish I hadn%26#39;t bought my Ka tickets for the first week in May... don%26#39;t want to see two Cirque-like-shows in one weekend.

Le Reve-- Wynn's new show-- director of O and Mystere

    torgo,

billhere has info on it in his free email with info you may want sign up,

there will be two showrooms they will not be open in may, more like dec-jan.

there was picture dont rember where i saw it ,

wagon wheel carpet ,casino had low ceilings

Le Reve-- Wynn's new show-- director of O and Mystere

Thanks for the info-- I just went to the website and it%26#39;s not listed... guess I do have to sign up for the email to view it.

December/January? Maybe it will be open when we go back for Christmas! Thanks for the info. :)

    torgo,

try ';las vegas talk';. - fourms,

a lot of info there , i think thats were picture was,

Ka was good ($125 seats) just not show that i would go back to for long time

Unless a disaster occurs, it will be open in May. They have been rehearsing on stage for quite a while now. It uses a large pool ( like O ) and has cirque-like performers. That is all I know at the moment. Dragone is a great creator, He did the Celine Show as well) . I think the cirque company is not as strong with him gone.

I bet he blows us away with Le Reve.......can%26#39;t wait!!!

    Can't find a web site!

We%26#39;re looking to go to vegas in april, may, or june. Our dates are very flexible, we%26#39;re just looking for the best deal. What is a good travel website to go to for travel deals if you have flexible dates and are looking for the best deal? I%26#39;ve tried everything under the sun! Thanks!

    Can't find a web site!

    Try orbitz.com, swavacations.com, americawest.com, mgmiragevacations.com .... they usually have good deals..

    Can't find a web site!

losnshel, you will get your best deal directly through the hotel of your choice. Their web sites are very easy to find using Google.

I recommend reading biddingfortravel.com and it will soon be clear that the hotel%26#39;s own website is not always the best rate.

We just spent five nights in LV, and every night of our stay was cheaper than the hotel%26#39;s website rate for those nights at any given point during the past two months. Quite a bit cheaper in fact. I booked my stay after reading that site.

vegas.com is the cheapest i have ever found...

Have you shopped directly at hotel websites?

June would be the best month of the three for bargains. If you have time to shop and have flexible dates, you might want to skip the online travel agencies and book directly with the hotel, and book air separately. Bookmark various hotel rate calendars and you might be surprised at what pops up.

Last week I saw a 5-day block (Sunday through Thursday) at Ballys in June going for $59 per night, and believe me, that would be the best $59-a-night hotel you%26#39;ll ever stay at in your life. That is just an unbelievable deal IMO. I posted that website calendar and several others in a thread titled ';July/August Hotels'; or something like that last week if you%26#39;re interested. Happy hunting!

Yep, that Bally%26#39;s deal is still there. 6/12 - 6/17 at $59 per night.

    playcaesars.com/ballys/…

Hop on it! Great hotel, great location, nice pool scene IMO!

losnel, most hotels have a guaranteed lowest rate, if you find a better deal on the web from a broker/agent, note the web page, call the hotel, ask for reservations, and tell them. They will match or beat it.

If you use an agency/broker, you are locked in by paying all your money up front with very difficult if not impossible cancellation policies. If you book directly with the hotel, they will only charge you for the first night, and all have a very simple cancellation policy, you call 48 or 72 hours before arrival and its done.

Also by booking directly the hotel, they can work with your rate. If by chance the rate goes down either through the hotel or agent/broker, call the hotel and get the lower rate. Plus if you book directly with the hotel, you might be able to get upgraded on arrival if there are rooms available, no way is that going to happen with an agent/broker. Trust me, I am in the hotel management business in LV, and I know what I am talking about.

    Good Luck...

on bookingbuddy.com you can put in your dates and search many different sites at once.

At Las Vegas Advisor website, they have this niffty application that you download called tavelax. You put in your dates and other parameters and it searches 13 different travel websites including the hotel ones and brings back a matrix of prices with highlights on the best deals per hotel.

I have gotten some really good deals by using it.

At the Las Vegas Advisor website, they have this application called travelaxe (I think that is the name). You tell it the dates and some other parameters and it goes to 13 different travel sites, including the direct hotel one and brings you back all the information.

    Stratosphere Hotel

Has anyone stayed there? I wanted to know how the rooms, casino and pools are like. I read they just opened a new ride, sounds scarier that the other ones.

    Stratosphere Hotel

    hi

i stayed there last april thought the rooms and casino fine i had no complaints

    view and rides a must

    enjoy

    Stratosphere Hotel

I stayed last Sept. Hotel, casino and pool was nice. The location of the hotel is bad. You are on the end of the strip. Walking outside at night is a little scary down there. If you plan on renting a car you will be fine. But if you walk alot while you are there plan on walking even more. It it very far from the center of the strip.

    Nothing wrong with the strat.

With the monorail running now the location of the strat isnt a problem. You can get anywhere on the strip in 20 min max.

The walk from the strat to the sahara is 5 min. The area is no where near as ';scary'; as people make it sound. Ive walked back from slots o fun by myself at all hours of the morning with no problems. The rides are good but go early in the morning if you want to avoid a long line to go up the tower.

    Monte Carlo wrap-up

    Overview:

This is a fantastic hotel. Absolutely beautiful. Check-in is easy. They have plenty of personnal to take care of the load. My room had a wonderful view - I can%26#39;t imagine better. Vegashomeboy suggested a front room. Trust me. Ask for a pool view overlooking the strip, and high up. Just pay the $20 - you%26#39;ll be glad you did. I was given a front room and the field of view was really narrow and overlooked the big casino roof. The wing facing west was absolutely the best.

    Room:

So pretty. Nice furniture. Spotless. And the most comfortable bed. As for noise. There wasn%26#39;t any. I was there 6 nights and it was very, very quite.

    Location:

    The absolute best. Wonderful!

    Transportation:

You can put a lot of miles on you feet walking the strip. I bought a bus pass which did come in handy from time to time. But I wouldn%26#39;t buy one again. The buses are too crowded and slow. I%26#39;d rather walk, take a break, and walk again.

    Restaurants:

Hotel restaurants were fine. The food court had a McDonalds, Nathan%26#39;s, Ice Cream, and a Bagel shop. Prices were just like those at home. The buffet was also just fine. Perhaps not as grand as the more popular, but tasty and excellent service.

    Convenience Stores:

Walgreens is across the street. CVS next door. There is a liquor/convenience store in Aladdin Street of Dreams with very reasonable prices

To wrap up, you can%26#39;t go wrong here. If you are looking for a party hotel, you might look elsewhere. I wasn%26#39;t. By the way. If you lose your money at the casino, you can enter the hotel from the non-casino entrance and you won%26#39;t be lured by the sound of the one armed bandits. A classy touch.

    Monte Carlo wrap-up

    Hi there

I have been waiting to read about your trip.It sounds like you were very happy with the hotel.....and I%26#39;m pleased about that. What else did u get up yo in Vegas??

    Monte Carlo wrap-up

    Hi BP,

You%26#39;ll think this very silly, but the highlight of my trip was a visit to the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum in the Venetian. There was ';Treasures of Ancient Egypt'; exhibit that was FANTASTIC! And I found it by accident. If it were in any other city, people would be lining up for blocks to see it. Most of my daytime hours were spent in classes.

I%26#39;m a real Disney fan and would compare every casino to Disney work. My conclusion - Disney does it better. But that%26#39;s just me. To be honest Vegas isn%26#39;t really my kind of town. Loved the hotel. Loved the bright lights and view. Didn%26#39;t care for the hustlers on the street. Don%26#39;t like the smoke. And would have enjoyed the casinos a little more if they had been even slightly generous. Anyway, I%26#39;m extremely glad to have gone and probably won%26#39;t be back for a looooong time.

By the way, it is a beautiful part of the country and if you get a chance you might like to visit Valley of Fires, Hover Dam - and if you have time, Grand Canyon. As you can see, I like the outdoors.

I am glad you liked the stay. I am willing to bet you will return on your next visit.

So glad to hear about your trip! I have to ask....

did you try the bread pudding? :)

Thanks for the GREAT Review...We are staying at the MC from March 24-27th and can hardly wait!...Thanks for the review of the hotel and the tips on where to ask for your room...West wing!

    Ah, Loveland,

I completely forgot about the bread pudding. When I got the desserts, I got a piece of pecan pie. Nothing fancy, but tasty. As you know, their selection of desserts were basic - unlike some of the ritzy buffets. But it was still fine.

How could I forget the bread pudding?

    Hi there

What great info about the Egyptian exhibition ....my daughter (14) is so into this and I can only hope it will still be there when we arrive. I know what you mean about Vegas not really being your kind of town. So many people I speak to are surprised I%26#39;m taking two teenagers there. However, after a 16 hour flight from Australia, we wanted a warm place with good pools to relax by before we hit the rest of the country. Thanks also for the tips on places outside of Vegas. Going to hire a car if my kids can stop screaming.....they cannot believe I will be able to drive on the other side of the road

    BP,

Your daughter will love it. Runs through July 31. When you have a chance, take a look at the web site.

  • MGM Grand vs Monte Carlo

Are these two in the same league?

I have rooms booked at Paris and Monte Carlo for the 1st week in June, and I am starting to lean towards MC based on previous posts. I am seeing comprable rates for MGM vs MC and am wondering if the two are equal. I know Paris is a step up, and I don%26#39;t mind paying for a nice place, but MC sounds great for the price.

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

    Gary

    MGM Grand vs Monte Carlo

For what%26#39;s it worth, I%26#39;ve seen several posts here indicate that the plumbing is somewhat loud at the MC.

    MGM Grand vs Monte Carlo

MGM is equal to Paris. MC I stayed their once and once was enough. Loud plumbing and small rooms and thin walls. Good views of the strip.

    Hi gc25,

I have stayed at MC several times and enjoyed my stay. They have good food choices and their pub is great. Check out link on forum call just got back... They stayed at MC and there are quite a few posts and questions to them.

I think you will enjoy your stay.

    zbethg

IMHO MGM is nicer than Monte Carlo. Monte Carlo is not a bad place to stay, but the rooms at MGM are a little nicer.

stayed at MC many times - also stayed at Flamingo, Bellagio, Aladdin, Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. So I speak from some experience on Vegas rooms.

MC is very nice, not a long walk through the casino for any of their ammenities. Never experienced noisy plumbing or thin walls here any more than any other hotel.

    Only the Bellagio is better.

I think you will find the service at MC to far exceed MGM or any hotel for that matter.

I%26#39;ve stayed at both MGM and MC. MGM -two queens, MC a king, so hard to visualize which was actually bigger. MGM might have been, but absolutely no comparisons in the beds. MC beds are fabulous. We didn%26#39;t experience any noise at all and we extremely pleased with our overall stay. Heading down to get coffee in the morning was a breeze as opposed to MGM which took over 20 min. round trip.

    We love the MC...

Stayed there 3 years in a row....

The pool is VERY NICE... lazy river...Hot tubs etc...

    Restaurants are good too...

    MC Brew Pub...Excellent food...

Blackstones...A little pricey.but well worth it for a special occasion...Never had any problems with noise or hearing pipes in the walls......Casino has hard to find on the ';strip'; $5.00 BJ

tables %26amp; single 0 roulette....A plus in my book.....

Always wanted to check out Paris also...Nice location...Restaurants etc..... Hard Choice!!!!

Good Luck with your decision! :) Annie

Monte Carlo is almost always less expensive than MGM and IS always a far better choice. Customer service is FAR superior at MC and everything just runs more smoothly, from valet parking to check-in, to get to your room, etc. Rooms are also much more comfortable at MC than MGM Emerald Tower, which is where they have most of the ';low-priced'; rooms are.

I%26#39;ve stayed at MC and Paris, but never MGM. Paris is definitely a very large step up from MC and has an equally good location. For me, it would be a no-brainer to stay at Paris. I did experience thin walls and loud plumbing at MC, but it was not a bad place. Its your run of the mill, 3-star property.

Who works at the Monte Carlo??-Help

I heard that the View is the best on the West Wing...Is that true and can I call and request this?

Who works at the Monte Carlo??-Help

I work there. Call and ask while making your reservation. The sooner you do it, the more likely you will get it. Procastination never pays.

Who works at the Monte Carlo??-Help

    V@V,

The room I had overlooling the pool and strip on the 29 floor was astonishing. I fell asleep watching the Bellagio Fountains every night.

The only problem was that I arrived very early and they only had rooms facing the front of the hotel. They were fine, but nothing like the other. I didn%26#39;t get into my room until 5pm, but I checked my bags and walked around town.

My guess is that they will charge you $20 extra for the view. That%26#39;s what I paid and it was the best money I spent in Vegas.

    Enjoy

Thanks Southwest...I%26#39;ll call them and make the request ASAP...29th floor West wing, Right?

West, if I have my directions right. I think the room I had was 29-124. That shoule help.

Can anyone recommend a great comedy show?

    Hey all!

We are flyin into Vegas 3-21 to 3-30...wondering if anyone can suggest a really great comedy show since we aren%26#39;t into the Cirque De Soleil scene....

thanks in advance...I LOVE reading all the posts!

Can anyone recommend a great comedy show?

    Good Lord. LOL

Can anyone recommend a great comedy show?

comedy stop at trop and second city at flamingo,

i would go to ';las vegas advisor ';and look at reviews under shows,

for fill in afternoon - mac king comedy- magic

I love the amazing jonathan but it%26#39;s not for everyone. check out his website before hand, in case he%26#39;s not your comedy taste.

    many thanks, everyone!

Improv at Harrahs. Discount coupons avaiaable in some of the Vegas free magazines. They always have three great comedians

    I%26#39;ll second the Improv.

Flamingo also has a show called ';Bottoms Up'; that only plays during the afternoon. Its a bunch of Saturday Night Live type sketches, with topless dancing in between. There are coupons for free entry (in most las vegas brochures from hotels) with the purchase of a drink. ($8 dollar drink). It is well worth buying a drink and enjoying youself for 2 hours.

Did enjoy the comedy stop. They had one of the writers from %26#39;the wonder years%26#39; when we were there and a funny woman (a rare thing indeed).

The Second City at Flamingo is excellent!

March Madness - Best Places to Watch

I am going for March Madness- what are the best casinos to watch the action? Where can you get a seat? Any advice would be appreciated!

March Madness - Best Places to Watch

In past years (have not seen anything yet) I know Ellis Island has a huge party with beer, prizes, etc.

March Madness - Best Places to Watch

The books are madness during the 1st weekend of MM. If you want to go to one of the Strip hotels, get there early, like 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. if you want a table.

We ended up at the Suncoast which is about 20 minutes from the Strip. A ton of chairs, a huge book %26amp; a great casino.

Have fun. MARCH MADNESS IS A BLAST IN VEGAS!!

    ag

The first 2 rounds of March Madness is the best. All of the strip sportbooks are great places to watch the games. This is will be my 3rd year going, and have spent time at the Venetian, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Paris, and the Flamingo. All are packed. I think to get a seat, you will need to show up at closer to 6 AM rather than 7:30 or 8 AM. I know guys that stay up all night to get seats at Mandalay and Bellagio. What we have done the past couple years is go to the March Madness party at the Flamingo. It cost money to get in (four day pass last year was $45) - but guaranteed seating at tables, food and drink within easy access, separate betting windows, and 4 big projection screens each showing a different game. Well worth the money, in my opinion.

The Flamingo deal, $45 four day pass does that include comp foor or drinks or at least cheap food and drinks??

I have heard of people doing the Flamingo deal before but on a one day admission of $10 or 15 bucks, that was a few years ago?

Any more info would be appreciated.

It includes a food and drink ticket and a t-shirt. This year, they have it in a smaller venue - so it%26#39;s limited to 250 people. Also, I found out that it will be only for 3 days rather than 4. If you buy one day, it%26#39;s $15, 2 days = $25, and 3 days = $35. I can%26#39;t remember if you get an additional food/drink ticket for each day. As for drink prices, it is expensive - something in the neighborhood of $4 a beer. That%26#39;s the one downside, which is a big one for my drunk friends and I. However, the venue this year is the North Tour Lobby (main floor back of the hotel) - so it may be easier to take a quick walk for a cheaper beer. In prior years the event was in one of the ballrooms, and you would have to walk miles to get a cheaper beer.

    Hey Events in NY,

are you going to be there this year?

I am with you regarding drunk friends and the beer costs. You pretty much have to win every game just to cover the bar tab!

If your going, see you there. I%26#39;ll be the drunk guy in the Texas Aggie Basketball Jersey smoking and drinking way too much!

I will be there and will keep my eyes open for you. We will be at the Flamingo - already called and purchased the tickets. Also, I found out that the Imperial Palace has a setup at the Royal Halls, which is on the third floor down from the sportsbook. Are the Aggies getting in this year? I%26#39;m a Boston College alum, so I%26#39;m really looking forward to this year%26#39;s tourny.

I am staying at the IP. HOw do you get falmingo tickets. Is there anything at the IP worth attending?

I am jacked up, should be a great time.

    Events,

Still keeping fingers crossed for the Ag%26#39;s, We Play OK State tomorrow (Wednesday) at OK State! Easy game, ha ha!

If we can somehow pull that one off, I feel good about our chances. heck for A%26amp;M, even the NIT tournament invite will be a huge success for us. Last year 0-18 in conference play!!! This year pressing for a 20 win season all around. Huge turn around. See you there, Good Luck BC!!!
