I keep reading how the drivers of the taxis try to rip off people going from the airport to the hotels.
What should I say so this won%26#39;t happen in going from the hotel to the Excalibur?
Taxi from airport to Excalibur - what to say to driver to...
Tell the driver you wish to exit the airport via Tropicana NOT the I-215. If they take 215, they are taking you about 5 extra miles to make the less than 2 mile trip to the Excalibur.
Also - note in speaking with a guest yesterday. If you are coming in this week or next - it appears that taxi charges have somehow been increased. A trip to my hotel increased yesterday by an additional $10 - Why - probably because of the demand - I thought the driver was jacking th eprice on them, but the guest told me it was what the meter read.....

ask taxi driver price before you get in,also the mini buses are very reasonable %26amp; you pay for your return trip at the same time %26amp; call the night before you leave for pick-up.I%26#39;ve only had one nasty taxi driver I gave him a 20% tip %26amp; he bitched %26amp; said it wasn%26#39;t enough!
just say do not take the tunnel
Skip the taxi, and take the shuttle, get you a round trip ticket and then they will take you back to the airport when ur ready to go...
easy as pie...

trust me if you are going within the next 2 weeks call a limo service. The line will be very long cause of the convention the boxing match and the NCAA basketball games. They dont call it march madness for nothing. Usually a service will cost you and friends about 55 dollars including gratuity they will meet you in the baggage area with your name on a sign they are holding.
My experience with cabs in vegas.....just returned today:
Maybe just luck but found them polite, honest and friendly, I did not give them instructions on routing, just took my chances. These are my three cab rides and I thought them reasonably priced:
Airport to Paris Sunday Nite 11.00
Paris Hotel to Luxor Hotel 6.00
Luxor to Airport Friday Nite 10.00
I tipped 2.00 each time and they seemed satisfied.
Jezo,
Not all Taxi drivers are trying to rip you off. Some are trying to save money by taking the tunnel. Taxis charge by both time and distance. And traffic on the surface streets in Vegas can tied up at times. I have had to wait through 4 lights when trying to turn left onto the Strip from Tropicana. Traffic is not always that bad, but once a driver sees traffic getting bad they might suggest the tunnel in an effort to save you money, not gouge you.
And for Hotels beyond Harrah%26#39;s/Caesar%26#39;s I%26#39;d say the Tunnel is always going to be the faster route. Trying to drive down the Strip or even Koval can be quite time consuming.
Joe
And just remember that going up the Strip is much worse than coming down, so your cab fares will definitely be higher. Towards the end of my stay this week it was becoming a parking lot so avoid the Strip at all costs.
I told our cabby not to take the tunnel, and he got us to Paris for $11.
